Fillings Post Operative Instructions

Now that we have removed your dental decay and placed resin (tooth colored) fillings, it is important to follow these important instructions.

If anesthetic was used you should avoid chewing until it has fully worn off so that you do not bite your tongue, cheek or lip. Your normal diet will be fine to eat. Your filling is as hard as it will ever be. You may brush and floss right away.

It is normal to experience cold and chewing sensitivity for as little as few days and up to a month after the filling was placed.

Should you feel any discomfort after the anesthetic wears off, you can take Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) 600mg or Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 1000mg.

You should call the office if:
  • Temperature sensitivity worsens or lasts for more than 4 weeks
  • You feel your bite is uneven
  • You develop a toothache
  • If you have any questions or concerns
